Corrosion research covers the rapid, non-destructive electrochemical evaluation of the corrosion rate of metals and alloys, the protectiveness of coatings, passivation and localized corrosion (pitting, crevice) behaviour. Standard protocols (ASTM, JIS) and industrial applications require reproducible, validated measurements.
Corrosion rate and pitting potential are determined with polarization resistance (Rp), Tafel extrapolation, potentiodynamic and cyclic polarization. Rp Fit, Tafel Fit, CorrSim, VASP/CASP and electrochemical noise analysis are built into EC-Lab®.
EIS follows coating degradation over time through coating capacitance and pore resistance; EIS quality indicators (THD, NSD, NSR) validate the measurement. The ULC option of the SP-200/SP-300 is essential for very high-impedance coatings.
With the M470 scanning system, the LEIS, SVET, SECM and SKP techniques map corrosion spatially on the micron scale.
